Out in the open, wind rushing through the trees
The birds, frogs, and insects singing their tune
Green, yellow, purple, red and blue
All plants filled with their radiant hue
The sight and sounds of nature all around me
Brings forth such peace and tranquility
– Stephen Curah
I found my passion for nature and exploring the outdoors while growing up in Jamaica. I enjoyed hiking and observing the birds and other forms of wildlife around me. The library at my school had books on the various bird species in both North America and Jamaica. With this knowledge, I was able to discern various bird species that migrated to the island and the birds that were local. Other than a love for nature I found an interest in the heavenly bodies, many nights were spent observing the stars, constellations and moon.
The interest in photography actually started when I observed an American Kestrel gliding across the road with talons out stretched. The target of the kestrel was a big green lizard on the branch of a tree. It all seemed to happen in slow motion, oh if I only had a camera to capture the moment. In college I purchased my first camera and rolls of film for a photography class. With these tools in hand, I was able to capture various moments of not only the outdoors but friends and family. Through the years I moved to digital cameras and continually doing what I love, taking photos and exploring the outdoors.
